Jenson Button has had quite the week. After clashing with former team-mate Lewis Hamilton in last weekend's German Grand Prix - their cars coming together on the Hockenheimring on Sunday in a clash that changed the race - Button initially questioned Hamilton's tactics, claiming Hamilton expected to let him through because he had the quicker car ("I think the problem with Lewis is he expected me to let him past"). Now, however, the 34-year-old has had a change of mind, saying, "After watching the race back think I overreacted with my feelings about Lewis's move. I can understand why he thought I was giving him room."

"You might notice we don't have a whole lot of suits and shirts and ties in the collection you're about to see," says Tom Ford as he welcomes us into the pristine, grey carpeted showroom at his world HQ in London's Victoria. "That's because we already have a very strong business in suits and shirts and ties - people know us for that. The thing we don't have enough of is sportswear - that's what we're concentrating on this season."X

Whether he was suited up for his role as Creative Director of Dior in the Fifties or wearing his trademark bug-eye specs at Studio 54 in the Seventies, Yves Saint Laurent was undeniably one of the best-dressed men of the last century. Safe to say then that Yves Saint Laurent - the first of two biopics about the designer to be released this year - will be one of the most stylish of 2014.

 

However, spanning three tumultuous decades from 1957 to 1976, what was it about Saint Laurent himself that made him stylish and how do you go about translating that to the cinema screen? We called the film's costume designer Madeline Fontaine at her home in Provence to talk dressing star Pierre Niney as the designer, the state of French menswear and Hedi Slimane's recent YSL revamp.
